Cool Summer Drinks for Kids (and Adults, too!)


Fresh Fruit Liquados

  • 2 1/2 cups chopped ripe fruit (such as: 1 banana plus 10 strawberries; 1 small canteloupe; 1/4 pineapple; 2 peaches; or 2 kiwis plus 1 banana)
  • 1 1/2 cups cold milk
  • 2 cups chopped ice
  • 3 tablespoons honey

Combine the fruit with the milk, ice and honey in a blender and puree until smooth. Pour into tall glasses and serve immediately. Makes 4 servings.

Strawberry Coconut Pineapple Shake

  • 8 ounces strawberries, hulled and sliced (about 1 cup)
  • 1/2 cup well-stirred canned cream of coconut
  • 1 pint vanilla frozen yogurt
  • 1 cup chilled unsweetened pineapple juice

Combine all the ingredients and blend until smooth. Pour the mixture into chilled glasses. Makes about 3 1/4 cups.

Very Berry Smoothie

  • 1 3/4 cups low-fat blueberry yogurt
  • 1/4 cup grape juice
  • 1 1/2 cups frozen blueberries
  • 1 cup frozen blackberries

Combine yogurt and juice in blender and add berries as you blend. Blend until mixture is thick and smooth. Pour into glasses and serve immediately. Makes 2 servings.

So-You-Can-See-The Sunrise

  • 4 ounces cranberry juice
  • 2 1/2 ounces orange juice
  • Squeeze of fresh lemon juice
  • Ginger Ale

Blend the juices with ice until smooth and pour into a tall 12 ounce glass. Top with ginger ale. Makes 1 serving.
