Sometimes, the solution to a problem is right in front of you. That's what Dr. David Lawler, a dentist from Bloomington, Indiana, discovered.
He realized that he had the skills necessary to help patients with sleeping disorders such as sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is when the breathing passage becomes choked off during the night, causing a person to wake up repeatedly -- but sometimes not to the point where they know they are awake.
Sound Medicine host Barbara Lewis talks to Dr. Lawler about a device he makes that is much more comfortable than the standard CPAP mask work by sleep apnea patients.
