Show: April 19, 2009:
Book: Healthcare: Guaranteed
Hosts: Eric Meslin, PhD, Barbara Lewis
Keeping on this week's topic, we revisit an interview from our archives. Our interview with bioethicist Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel is as relevant now as when it was recorded last summer.
Ezekiel Emanuel, bioethicist at the National Institutes of Health, co-authored the book Healthcare, Guaranteed with Victor Fuchs.
Emanuel, elder brother of White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, now works in the Office of Management and Budget as a special adviser for health policy.
Today we revisit some of the principles he laid out in his book, which would preserve a role for private insurers, and would be paid for by a value-added tax.
We were joined in the conversation by Sound Medicine's resident bioethicist, Dr. Eric Meslin of the IU Center for Bioethics. Meslin and Emanuel are longtime friends and colleagues.
