Air date: April 26, 2009
Host: Barbara Lewis
Interview: Marie Savard, MD
ABC News Medical Contributor
& author of a number of books, including How to Save Your Own Life.
Not long ago, fans of Oprah Winfrey heard a bit more about her medical condition than they expected.
Oprah disclosed that she had stopped taking her thyroid medication, saying it made her feel "foggy." Now, she says, she’s feeling much better.
Without asking for a diagnosis of Oprah herself, SM host Barbara Lewis asked ABC News medical contributor Dr. Marie Savard if it's common for a thyroid condition to just disappear.
Savard says it's not, and she explains the basics of hyper- and hypothyroidism -- as well as the dangers of following medical advice from celebrities.
