Interview: Shia Levitt, Sound Medicine reporter

Original air-date: April 26, 2009.

We begin today with another example of how the baby boomer generation is affecting health care.

An unusual drug treatment program opens in Florida this week: it is the first-in-the-nation especially designed to treat baby boomers.

The addicted are people in their 50's and 60's, and they’re often folks who used to use opiates or marijuana or heroin and have fallen back into the habit.

Sound Medicine Reporter Shia Levitt visited the Hanley Center in West Palm Beach, Florida, and found that -- for various reasons -- treating this age group is different from treating young drug addicts.
