Living with HIV/AIDS
Interview: Sound Medicine producer, Colleen Iudice.
One of the real medical success stories of the past decade is in the area of treatment for HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.
It’s not a stretch to say that HIV and AIDS have been transformed from a likely death sentence to something more like a chronic disease -- thanks both to the new medications, and to the programs designed to ensure access to those drugs.
Recently, Sound Medicine producer Colleen Iudice visited with a number of people who fit into that category.
This week, she introduces us to Sam McHenry, who has been HIV positive for about 15 years.
Sam told her that while he has had his fair share of health scares along the way, today he’s living a fairly healthy life.
But the message he really wants to convey is the importance of using condoms.
