Did you know that smoking a pipe or cigar is nearly as bad as smoking cigarettes?

Because pipes and cigars may seem sophisticated, it's easy to get the impression they're healthier than cigarettes. After all, you typically don't inhale pipe and cigar smoke deep down into the lungs.

But a new study finds that while pipe and cigar smoke may technically be a little less bad than cigarette smoke, it still ain't good. According to the study, pipe and cigar smokers are at significantly higher risk than non-smokers for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease -- an illness involving breathing difficulties.

Other studies have linked pipes and cigars to lung, lip, tongue, and throat cancers, among others.

And the nicotine in pipe and cigar tobacco is just as addictive as it is in cigarettes.

So if you're choosing between smoking a pipe or cigar or cigarettes, the best choice is none of the above.
