Interview: Doug McKeag, MD, director of the IU Center for Sports Medicine

This segment originally aired December 13, 2009.

When NFL players head back to the practice field in the next few weeks, coaches and trainers will be following a set of guidelines put in place over the winter for how to deal with concussions.

Now, a player showing symptoms such as memory loss, confusion, dizziness, or problems with balance may not return to action until he’s checked out by a physician.

Barbara Lewis speaks with Dr. Douglas McKeag about the new regulations. McKeag is a sports medicine expert at Indiana University who has dealt with many football-related concussions over the years. He directs the IU Center for Sports Medicine.
