Interview: Vonda Wright, assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery, University of Pittsburgh
This segment originally aired January 10, 2010.
Conventional wisdom might suggest that as we age, we should take it easier on ourselves and attack our favorite sports with less ferocity.
Not so, says our next guest. Dr. Vonda Wright of the University of Pittsburgh studied bone strength among hundreds of athletes who took part in the Senior Olympics. These athletes had higher bone density than their non-athletic peers.
Dr. Wright says we need to rethink how we exercise -- and continue high-impact exercise as we age.
