Show: July 4, 2010:
Book: Genetic Rounds
Interview: Robert Marion, MD, director of clinical genetics, Montefiore Medical Center and Blythedale Children's Hospital, New York.
This segment originally aired March 21, 2010.
Finally this week: a clinical geneticist explains the fine art of translating scientific findings, often bad news, into useful information that a family can actually use.
That’s the job of our next guest, Dr. Robert Marion. He directs the clinical genetics program at two New York hospitals.
Marion's book is called "Genetic Rounds: A Doctor's Encounters in the Field that Revolutionized Medicine." With Sound Medicine's Dr. Steve Bogdewic, he talks about the challenges of exploring the genetic secrets of his patients, and sharing the information with them, whether it is good new or bad.
