I'm Jeremy Shere.

Did you know that giving infants a little sugar water helps lessen the pain of vaccination shots?

That's according to a study by researchers at royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia.

They reviewed 14 trials including more than 1,600 injections where some infants getting shots were given sugar water and others plain water or no water.

The studies showed that infants who drank sugar water cried less often and for shorter periods of time.

Previous studies found similar results, some focusing on infants only a few months old, others looking at infants up to one year. No matter the specific age, sugar water seems to alleviate the pain of getting a shot.

None of the studies, though, venture a guess as to why.

And now you know.
