Inflammatory Breast Cancer: Rare But Deadly
Interview: Bryan Paul Schneider, MD
Breast cancer researcher
Assistant professor of Medicine
Indiana University School of Medicine
Inflammatory breast cancer is an ultra aggressive form of breast cancer.
It’s tougher to diagnose and it affects a disproportionate number of younger women and African American women. And even though it is rare, it contributes to a high percentage of breast cancer deaths.
Bryan Schneider, MD, is a breast cancer researcher whose work on improving the diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory breast cancer has attracted funding from both the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and the Milburn Foundation.
Dr. Schneider speaks with Sound Medicine’s Dr. David Crabb about the best ways to recognize and treat this deadly cancer.
Additional Resources:
- The National Cancer Institute provides an excellent fact sheet on inflammatory breast cancer.
- Physicians and researchers will find good resources, including photos of the disease, at the Inflammatory Breast Cancer Foundation website.
