"The King’s Speech" is up for twelve Academy Awards this spring.

If you haven’t seen it, the film about the relationship between the then-Duke of York, who later became King George the sixth, and his speech coach, who helped him overcome a stammer.

The film shows how difficult it can be, both physically and socially, to overcome a stammer.

Our next guest is one of three million Americans who know that firsthand: Dr. Barry Guitar is an expert on stuttering at the University of Vermont…who has learned to manage his own difficulty with speech. He chats with Sound Medicine’s Dr. David Crabb.
