Experts Tackle Ethical Health Care Rationing
Interview: Bioethicists Arthur Caplan, PhD, and Eric Meslin, PhD
Health care policy expert Aaron Carroll, MD
In the Sound Medicine studios this week, two bioethicists and a health care policy expert meet to discuss health care rationing. Two familiar voices, IU health care policy expert Aaron Carroll, MD, and the director of the IU Center for Bioethics, Eric Meslin, PhD, sit down with influential bioethicist Arthur Caplan, PhD, the Sydney D. Caplan Professor of Bioethics at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
Carroll, Caplan and Meslin identify disparities that exist in the United States when it comes to medical care and drugs. Given this basic problem, the three discuss approaches to national health care that render access to basic health care services more equitable.
Arthur Caplan is the Sydney D. Caplan Professor of Bioethics at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
Eric Meslin directs the Indiana University Center for Bioethics.
Aaron Carroll, MD, is director for research with the Children’s Health Services Research Program at the Indiana University School of Medicine.
