Interview: Cynthia Bulik, Ph.D., director of the eating disorders program at the University of North Carolina.
While most people associate eating disorders with young women, a new demographic has emerged as a prime age for developing an eating disorder. In a recent study, 13 percent of women older than 50 were identified as having some kind of eating disorder. Cynthia Bulik, Ph.D., director of the eating disorders program at the University of North Carolina, discusses the ramifications of eating disorders for older women and the previously held assumption that older women have made peace with the state of their bodies.
