Interview: Anantha Shekhar, MD, PhD
Professor of psychiatry
Indiana University School of Medicine
Dr. Anantha Shekhar discusses the growing misuse of the ADHD drug Adderall, especially among high school and college students.
The ADHD drug Adderall is being used as a diet drug because it suppresses appetite. As a study aid it aids concentration, and as a stimulant it helps keep students awake.
The prescription drug is traded and sold by teens and young adults. It is also obtained by lying to physicians about a student's problems "focusing" in the classroom.
